October Days at Home
I’m writing this October post in November in two parts because part of the time I was home in the States and the other part I ventured to Bali, Indonesia. The delay in writing, also, is because jet lag kicked my butt upon my return home. Any who, here’s to living my life in full color and sharing my moments at home.
Starting with my garden, the first half of the month it still was producing mostly okra, Ridge Gourd, a few sweet potatoes, and amazingly what I originally thought was a volunteer squash plant turned out to be cucumber. A few pictures, also, show fall flowers blooming.
Fall is a favorite season of the year. Leaves are changing and it’s a wonderful time to be outside, even if you see the occasional shed skin of a snake. And there was a gorgeous full moon October 5 and 6.
Next, it’s all things quilts. My quilter friend, Stephany, was featured in the Today in Mississippi Magazine. She’ll be demonstrating her craft at the National Folk Festival in Jackson, MS in November. On October 16, I attended the MS Arts Commission Conference. I got to see the community quilt that was finished as a result of a MS Arts Museum “Love Letters to Self” workshop conducted by L’Merchie Frazier back in March 2025. I was so happy to see my small contribution sewn in. Afterwards, Stephany gave me a special tour of her “We are the Threads of Mississippi” exhibit.
Quilt #1 for the Home Place Community Quilting Project was completed. And I laid out a series of small art quilt pieces that are almost done but on hold for now.
I held the October 20 Home Place Community Quilting Project workshop and the next day flew to LA to start my sojourn to Bali. But first, I spent the afternoon at Venice Beach with my travel mate, Deirdra. Had never been there and was so glad we’d taken the time out to visit. Headed to hotel to rest up for our 17+ hour flight the next day.
In closing this part one of my post, always remember to do what’s best to nurture you, family, friends and your community. Peace, wisdom, gratitude be with us all.
