Meet
Third Ward Zen's
Inspiring Founder

First Act
Grew up with roots in Third Ward, Houston, Texas.

Second Act
Left Texas, worked in academics, still working in government, and continue to travel the world.
 
Third Act
Became a Breast cancer survivor, certified yoga instructor, certified practitioner of Thai Yoga Massage and Reiki, published author and founder of the Third Ward Zen community network. Living life in full color.

Ellen Williams Harris, DrPH is a certified Yoga instructor, Thai Yoga Massage practitioner, and Level 1 Reiki practitioner.  Dr. Harris holds a doctorate in public health with an emphasis in public health nutrition and epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health. She retired with over 31 years (1990 – 2021) of service with the federal government managing large research centers and projects in the US, Africa and Asia.  In 2009 and 2000, she was awarded Fulbright Senior Scholar Fellowships, where she taught and advised on nutrition in Columbia and Zimbabwe, respectively.  Between 1988 and 1990, she was a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow with the U.S. Select Committee on Hunger, U.S. House of Representatives.  After receiving her doctorate in 1983, Dr. Harris taught as an Assistant Professor at Drexel University in the Department of Nutrition & Food Sciences,.
